In addition to gaining foundational knowledge of biological and social sciences, our one-year full time (two years part-time) course gives you the opportunity to gain an introduction to various areas of complementary medicine through interdisciplinary electives including Naturopathy and Nutrition.

Upon graduation, this Higher Education Diploma opens the doors to further study in health science degrees or roles in allied health or complementary medicine environments. Naturopathy is a whole medical system combining theory (philosophy and principles) and practise that uses an array of natural therapies to support healing and maintain health.

Naturopaths aim to treat the underlying causes of illness and disease. The core principle of “healing through nature” guides the naturopath’s use of nutrition, dietary counselling, herbal medicine, manual therapies, flower essences, lifestyle education and homeopathy.

Students experience a holistic learning environment, broadening their studies across biological sciences in order to understand the human body and its functions. The importance is also placed on social sciences including psychology and counselling, nutrition and dietary planning, botany and herbal medicine studies, diagnostic techniques and clinical skills and extensive clinical practice in Endeavour’s Teaching Clinics.

Many naturopath’s work in private practises, managing their own business and personal clients. Naturopaths may also work in multi-disciplinary clinics, health food stores, pharmacies and day spas or retreats as practitioners.

Graduates are eligible for professional recognition with several Australian natural health associations and can expand into other industries, such as product development, education, professional writing, natural health research and product sales and marketing.

The ancient practice of Acupuncture, a form of Traditional Chinese Medicine, has become a widely used treatment option in Australia. As a student, you will gain an understanding of Traditional Chinese Medicine philosophy and principles and learn to apply these practically through techniques such as acupuncture, Qi Gong, Chinese herbs, Chinese dietary therapy and massage (Tui Na). Throughout this degree, you will have an extensive opportunity for clinical practise in Endeavour’s on-campus Teaching Clinics. Endeavour’s Bachelor of Health Science (Acupuncture) is approved by the Chinese Medicine Board of Australia (CMBA). Graduates must apply for registration with CMBA if they wish to use professional titles and practise as a Chinese medicine practitioner in Australia. Information regarding registration standards is available on the CMBA website. Education, product development and media positions are other popular career outcomes for Acupuncture graduates, in addition to clinical practice.

Clinical nutritionists integrate traditional food wisdom and current scientific evidence to motivate individuals and communities to eat well and live healthier lives.

The Bachelor of Health Science (Nutritional and Dietetic Medicine) is supported by a strong underpinning of biological and social sciences subjects. Your studies broaden throughout the degree to include nutritional biochemistry, weight management, clinical nutrition, dietary planning, sports nutrition, nutritional physiology research and public health nutrition. These theories and concepts are put into practice through developing clinical skills and clinical experience in Endeavour’s Teaching Clinics.

Graduate Nutritionists may choose to enter clinical practice, either in private practice or in an integrative or other healthcare settings. Nutritionists are also entering industry-based roles in areas such as product development, education, corporate health and nutraceutical sales and marketing.

This degree does not meet the professional accreditation requirements of the Dietitian’s Association of Australia (DAA) for graduates to practise as an Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD).

The Undergraduate Certificate in History and Philosophy of Complementary Medicine is a perfect qualification to introduce you to the historical underpinnings and cultural background of some of the oldest health fields. The subjects have been selected to provide a broad insight across many complementary therapies in Australia. Students will study the history of healing and integration of complementary medicine, naturopathic principles and philosophy, foundations of Chinese medicine, musculoskeletal therapies as well as the cultural, ethical and social dimensions of human nutrition.
