Apprenticeship – Pastry Chef

Buns and Beans is a well known and loved community bakery specialising in creating traditional delicious and pastries, cakes, and bread. Our North Richmond store is the main kitchen to supply our three bakeries, North Richmond and Wilberforce.

We are seeking a talented and creative Apprentice Pastry Chef to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for baking and a strong background in pastry. You will be responsible for preparing a variety of desserts, pastries, and other baked goods, as well as contributing to product development and ensuring high standards of food quality and presentation.

About the role:

• Prepare and bake a wide range of pastries, cakes, slices and cookies.
• Develop and test new recipes to expand our offerings.
• Decorate and present desserts in a visually appealing manner.
• Communicate directly with customers regarding special orders, create the custom cakes, and ensure their timely delivery.
• Manage inventory, order supplies, and maintain a clean and organised kitchen.
• Ensure all baked goods meet quality and food safety standards.
• Collaborate with kitchen staff and manage a team of bakers and assistants.
• Adapt recipes to meet dietary requirements and special requests.

About you:

• Must be passionate about food, particularly pastry!
• Enthusiastic and hard-working
• Committed to both on-the-job training and formal study towards your qualification
• Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks.
• Strong communication skills.
• Australian citizen or permanent resident with full working rights
