Apprenticeship Job Available

HVAC Apprenticeship – Invercargill

About the role

We’re on the hunt for a first-year HVAC apprentice to join a well-established team in Invercargill. This is a proper start to a real trade career, not a stepping stone or a filler job. You’ll be learning heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration alongside qualified tradies who genuinely enjoy passing on what they know.

Days start at the workshop around 7.30, so you’ll need to be reliable and ready to get stuck in. Down the track there’ll be the option to join the after-hours call-out roster, which is why we want someone local who’s planning to stick around Invercargill for the long haul.

What you’ll be doing (year one)

• Installing HVAC equipment on residential and commercial jobs

• Following instructions and picking up the trade the right way

• Basic electrical duties as part of installs

• Learning to use tools safely and confidently

• Keeping the workshop, vans and job sites tidy

Where it heads (years two to four)

As your skills grow, you’ll take on more responsibility and start running with jobs of your own. You’ll get into full installs, servicing and fault-finding across heat pumps and refrigeration, reading plans, brazing and pipework, and refrigerant handling. Over time you’ll pick up the electrical and licensing tickets that go with the trade, and finish with your NZ Certificate in Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (Level 4), a ticket that’s still in demand in NZ.

What we’re after

• Someone practical who likes working with their hands and using tools

• A can-do attitude and the sort of person who shows up on time, every time

• Based in Invercargill and planning to stay

• A full or restricted driver’s licence is a big plus

• Any previous installing experience, or time as a trade assistant (TA), will be looked on favourably but isn’t essential

• Physically fit, comfortable in roof spaces, on ladders and in tight spots

• Good communicator who can take direction and ask questions when they need to

What’s in it for you

• A structured apprenticeship with real training, mentoring and a nationally recognised qualification

• Regular one-on-ones with your supervisor so you always know how you’re tracking

• A team that actually likes each other. BBQs, team days and a workshop where people have a laugh while getting the job done

• Long-term career prospects in a trade that’s not going to get replaced by AI

• The chance to build a trade you can take anywhere, right here at home
