Marine Driver Traineeship

Join SeaLink South Australia—one of the state’s most trusted and well-established transport providers—while completing two nationally recognised qualifications supported by MRAEL.

You’ll begin with the essential Shipboard Safety Skillset, followed by completing a qualification in Marine Engine Driver Grade 2 (MED2). Here, you’ll gain hands-on experience assisting in the operation and maintenance of marine engines on commercial vessels.

Once you complete your MED2, you will progress to the Master 5 qualification—opening the door to applying for your command accreditation in the future.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Support daily ferry operations transporting passengers and freight between Cape Jervis and Kangaroo Island
  • Assist Engineers with scheduled maintenance including coolant replacement, bellows, oil changes and refuelling
  • Support the Ferry Café crew as needed, providing customer service
  • Engage in vessel operations including navigation support, cleaning, security, and general ferry/wharf maintenance

Roster: 7 days on / 7 days off (Wednesday–Tuesday), including weekends and public holidays.

About You:

We’re looking for applicants who are motivated, reliable, and enthusiastic about building a maritime career.

Essential:

  • Reside near Cape Jervis or on Kangaroo Island
  • Car and driver’s licence
  • Current National Police Clearance
  • Comfortable working at heights and within confined spaces
  • Willing to undertake formal on-the-job training towards your Certificate III
